Once upon a time a ferocious lion found a little squeaky mouse in his den.
"I could crush you with my paw," said the lion. The poor little mouse shook with fear.
"D.. d.. do not d.. do that, p.. please," stammered the mouse.
"Leave my den," purred the kind lion, "I will not kill you."
"Thank you," said the mouse, "Some day I will do you a good turn."
"You!" the lion smiled. "How could a poor little thing like you help a big lion?"
"I don't know, said the little mouse, but I wish to help you when I can."
"Very well!" said the lion.
The little mouse ran out of the den.
One day the lion walked into a net that was set up by a hunter. The lion struggled hard but could not get out of the net. He could not break the cords with all his strength. The little mouse heard the lion roaring in frustration, and came running up.
"Do not move," said the mouse, "and I will bite the cords."
The lion lay still, and the mouse bit one cord after another. Soon the net was in tatters and the lion was free.
"I am glad I did not kill you with my paw when I had the opportunity," said the lion.
The little mouse was happy it could be of help to the mighty lion.
