This kunwara is remake of Telugu film "Bavagaru Bagunnara". This is produced by Geetha Arts Company in combination with Tips cassettes. This role is not cut out for Govinda, whereas it is very well suited for Chiranjeevi. In fact it is an offbeat film for Chiranjeevi. For Govinda, who has already done similar roles in two of his recent films, Hadh Kardi Apne and Joru Ka Ghulam, it is nothing challenging. Salman Khan's hot cake "Dhulhan Hum Lejayenge" is yet another film that shares the common theme. So it would be a difficult task to predict the future of this film "Kunwara."

David Dhavan, the director of the film, has a fancy for foreign locales for his comedies. All the scenes shot in New Zealand in this film are a bundle of confusion and chaos. In addition to this, the songs are cacophonic and most unpleasant to the ear. Unlike in the Telugu film the comedy part is less and the story line extends. So for those who expect a comedy kind of entertainment from Govinda, it would be a disappointment.

Another big drawback of the film is Nagma who has been off the screen for quite sometime. The fans of Govinda cannot appreciate the presence of Nagma beside him. The sensuous beauty of Urmila is the only attraction to the film.

Raju (Govinda) runs a restaurant in New Zealand. His friend's Gopal (Johny Lever). Swapna (Urmila) is in search of a Raju as she suspects that her friend is hurt by Raju. Raju introduces his friend Gopal as Raju to Urmila and continues the drama for some time. He pretends that his friend is killed and after some struggle they get rid of the body of Gopal. But to the surprise of Swapna she comes across with live Gopal and comes to know about the guile of Raju.

After that Raju comes back to India. As he doesn't have any kith or kin, he will be just roaming around a village. There he meets a girl who is trying to commit suicide. He stops her from that and knows the girls' story. She is deceived by a boy and doesn't want to show her face to her father. He immediately comes out with a plan that he will act as her husband for sometime. So he will be living with her in the village. The actual story and farce starts when Swapna returns to India. The actual twists and turns start now, as Swapna and Nagma are own sisters. Here the story takes a serious turn, which will be disappointing to Govinda's fans.

The plus point of the film is that David Dhavan keeps consistency in offering subtle comedy throughout. But unfortunately David, as well as, Govinda does not have much scope for creativity. Ompuri and Kaderkhan have subdued roles. After watching the film one cannot think of a change in comedies, which would be different from mothers-in-law and sons-in-law type. Though the filmy people have come out of "Hum Aap Ke Hai Kown" hang over they have yet to come out of the grips of DDLJ.
