Family Background

In the olden days, in a village called Paramananda Puram a very holy Brahmin named Paramanandaya used to live. His father and great grandfather’s were pundits (scholars) and had great knowledge in mythology. This reputation gave their family a little called "Family of Pundits (Scholars)".

But it was a pity that Paramanandaya could not even learn simple things leave alone the mythology. He used to forget everything he read in a moment. On his fathers pressure he learnt normal things and hence was called a literate.

Despite his poorness in mythology and just because he was born in such a reputed family, he was respected by one and all in the village. As there was no Brahmin family in and about 30 villages around Paramanandapuram people used to feel that Paramanandaya and his family was a gift of god. During auspicious happenings in the village Paramanandaya was consulted and was rewarded well. The villagers gave things, which are useful for his family to lead a happy life including the grains, vegetables, salt, tamarind.

After his fathers death Paramanandaya became the guru for the village and used to give suggestions for all good and bad happening in the village. Where there is no water around even salty water is considered precious, in the same way as there were no pundits (scholars) in 30 villages, he was considered to be the guru and the villagers considered his word holy. In olden days people living in villages were very innocent. If they believe someone they used to treat him like god and obey his words. This was the same case with our Paramanandaya. He was consulted for every small work to be performed by the villagers and they used to follow his suggestions, do as per his orders.

Just like his father and grandfather Paramanandaya also started practicing medicine. Lucky people used to survive with his medicines and unlucky people used to get relived from all these earthly pleasures (i.e. use to die). Paramanandaya was almost ignorant of medicine and did not know much about giving medicines, which helped majority of his patients used to reach heaven (i.e. used to die). But still nobody used to question his medicines or his knowledge in medicine. They used to think that it was his destiny for this what can Paramanandji could do and used to get satisfied. Nobody dared to even ask him about it.

GURU BRAHMA GURU VISHNU GURU DEVO MAHESHWARA
GURU SAKSHAT PARA BRAHMA TASMYE SHREE GURUVENAMAHA.

The above recited is a verse which means that teacher (Guru) is considered to be god (Brahma, Vishnu, and Maheswara) the creator (Brahma), the director (Vishnu) and the destroyer (Maheshwara or Shiva) and the teacher (Guru) is considered to be the god of gods (Para Brahma) and when he is god of gods how can he tell lies? How can he mislead people? How can he do wrong things?

The villagers used think in these lines and used to feel that if we look down upon Paramanandaya they will not be able to live. With all the fame, Paramanandaya was living like a king without the throne. His wife Sundaramma used to feel as if she was the queen. Paramanandaya had 12 Brahmins who were pure bachelors as his disciples because of them his fame kept on progressing day by day in Andhra Pradesh.
