Massive attendance for PDSU’s Challo Hyderabad

Hyderabad, September 14 (HSN): The Challo Hyderabad programme organised in support of the students’ demands by Progressive Democratic Students’ Union (PDSU) passed off peacefully and successfully on Thursday.

The demands of PDSU included for waiving all sorts of fees for students in drought hit regions of the state and scrapping the proposal of introducing astrology as a science into academic syllabus and as a course. Thousands of students from almost every nook and corner of the state assembled near Sundaraiah Vignana Kendram at Baghlingampally here.

PDSU state unit president M Srinivas addressing the gathering criticised the pretext shown by the government to avoid waiving students’ fees. The drought conditions had imposed conditions in certain regions where in people were suffering to properly feed their families. Under these conditions, the state government should not have proclaimed that it has insufficient funds to meet to the fees waiver in 911 Mandals that were severely drought hit.

The government was adding fuel to the sufferings of student community of the state with its adamant stand stopping the Rs 70 crore grant to universities. In addition to this, the burden was being incessantly increased on the students and their guardians’ shoulders with the hike in tuition, examination and maintenance fee structures, he regretted.

General secretary Ch Sagar speaking on the occasion the proposal of the Central government led by Bharatiya Janata Party to introduce astrology and other illogical sciences into the academics was a big mistake. The government should not drive people towards blind beliefs in this advanced and technological modern world, he advised. All the proposals of BJP led NDA government was to apply Hindutva principles and gain a political mileage out of it, everywhere.

Every move the Centre was part of the hidden agenda of backseat driving force Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), he charged.

Lakhs of scholarship applications were kept pending with the state government, the scholarship amounts should be increased on par with the spiralling price tags of essential commodities, he demanded. All the pending scholarships should be released immediately, he furthered.

N Appa Rao, Arun Kumar, Manohar, Bhumaiah, Sathish and others were among speakers.
