Organise the unorganised sector workers: BMS demands

Hyderabad, September 14 (HSN): The leaders of the state unit of Bharatiya Mazdoor Sangh (BMS) demanded the state and central governments to bring the crores of unorganised sector workers under the umbrella of organised sectors.

A huge rally with this demand was convened by the BMS from Sundaraiah Vignana Kendram at Baghlingampally to Indira Park here on Thursday.

State unit secretary RLN Raju addressing the assembly detailed that over 35 crore workers were employed in various sectors of which just about five crore workers were under the shelter of Organised and protected sectors. The rest 30 crore workforce of the country were being treated as slaves and not paid properly as they are unorganised, he regretted.

The governments of the country, until now failed to create a system through which the interests of the workers can be protected and taken care of, he charged. The life risk of workers in the unorganised sectors like construction was growing day after day.

He demanded for issue of identification cards to all the unorganised sector workers. Taking the identification as benchmark future fund, family pension, insurance, medical, self-employment and own your home schemes should be implemented, he demanded.

As there is no permanent employer to the unorganised sectors, the state and central government should take the responsibility as employer and protect the lives of the crores of workers, he urged. It should see that minimum wages act is implemented rigorously across the country.

An insurance scheme should be formulated and implemented so that deceased’s families could be given Rs one lakh in case of accidental death or Rs 50,000 in case of natural death, he advised and demanded.

Workers belonging to construction, agricultural, handloom, toddy tapping, rickshaw puller, auto drivers and other sectors participated in the rally and public meeting.
