Wesley Boys Junior College - Institute that Innovates

CSI Medak Diocese was founded by Missionaries in 1870 with the vision and commitment.

They started Wesleyan Group of Institutions for the total development of Body, Mind and Soul 100 YEARS OF GLORIOUS SERVICE IN THE CAUSE OF EDUCATION.

A Brief History

The Wesleyan Methodist Missionary Society, London commenced its work in the Erstwhile Nizam's State in 1879. The Missionaries noticed that there were no schools for Girls and Schools for Boys were few and far apart. Hence, they established primary schools for Boys and Girls in Hyderabad, Secunderabad and Bolarum.;

The 20th Annual Report of this Society’s work for the Year 1899 records the functioning of 2 Schools in Bolarum, 3 Schools in Chaderghat and 5 Schools in Secunderabad, known as, Regimental Bazar, MarketStreet, Chetty Street, Nallagutta and Ghasmandi, besides a Girls, Boarding and Normal School at Secunderabad. Of the five schools in Secunderabad it was the Ghasmandi School, which developed into a recognized middle School, under the charge of Rev. E.T. Lesile M.A. in 1901, a Missionary from Australia.;

The provision of hostel facilities was always considered an integral part of the educational system. Therefore, in 1896 a boys’ Home was started in Secunderabad under the personal supervision of missionary couple Rev. & Mrs. Frederic Lamb. The Senior Boys of this home used to attend classes in Mahboob College, while the junior boys attended classes in Ghasmandi School.;

The popularity the Ghasmandi School enjoyed, and the desire to have a High School of its own forced the Missionary Society to look for a bigger campus and ultimately, the present site on Penderghast Road was purchased. Here New School buildings were put up into which the Ghasmandi School moved in 1910, with a new Principal - Rev. G.Station Marries, B.A. the first floor of the new school building served as Hostel into which the Boys’Home was shifted. Thus the sure foundation of the Wesley Boys’ High School and Hostel were laid.;

A galaxy of Missionary educationalists served the School as its principals, the notable among them being Rev. F.T. Shipham who succeeded Mr. Marris and who was the Promoter of the SISAA (Secunderabad Inter School Athletic Association) Rev. L.Simpson, a great disciplinarian, Rev. W. Lecato Edwards who introduced Scouting, Rev. Cecil Thomas Groves a great musician and a poet, and the Rev. Howard Wilfred Sibree Page, the last of the missionary Principals. An integrated development of the human personality was aimed at which policy in due course produced men of mental caliber, true sportsmanship and above all a sound character. Wesley was thus chiseled into a premier institution, very much sought after by parents.;

In 1935, the Boys’ Hostel was delinked from the School premises and shifted to a spacious site on Mc lntyre Road.;

Two unforgettable events took place in India in 1947. On August 15 India became in Independent Country and on September 27, the(Wesleyan) Methodist Church in South India integrated itself with two other denominational churches to form an Autonomous Indian Church called “the Church of South India”. These two conspicuous events have changed the course of subsequent history of the institution. The leadership passed on to Indian hands.;

Prof. Ernest Gideon took over Principal ship of the school in 1951. In 1955, in keeping with the Governments’ new Educational Policy, the school was upgraded into multipurpose higher Secondary School. Mr. K.A.Jonathan was appointed as principal in 1959. In conformity with the revised educational policy, the multi purpose school as bifurcated into two sections,viz; the SSC and the Junior College Departments in 1970. Mr. T.P. Sadannandam took charge of the School & junior college as principal in 1966. Thereafter he was succeeded by Mr. P.Devadas in 1972 and Mr. M.J.Bhasker Rao in 1974.;

Sri Mr. N.S. Prakasham in 1992. Dr. E.John Ravinder took over as the Principal in September, 1995.;

The gradual upgradation of the institution from High School to multipurpose school then a Junior College and a Degree College has necessitated the construction of new buildings, including a beautiful Auditorium as a project of the institution's Platinum Jubilee Celebration in 1980.;

The college with it’s highly qualified and experienced staff aims at the Academic excellence, character building, sportsmanship and all-round development of a child. Monthly tests and Terminal examinations are conducted as per the schedule and the progress reports along with the attendance are sent to the parents after the evaluation students are also encouraged to participate in extra curricular activities such as elocution, quiz, essay writing and Cultural Programmes.;

The management of the institution rests with the Medak diocese of the Church of South India. A separate board of management for each institution under the chairmanship of the Bishop in Medak looks after the affairs of the concerned institution.
